The Land and Water Defense Fund is a program of The Conservation Alliance that awards discretionary grants and funds TCA’s advocacy efforts to defend our conservation priorities when wild places and outdoor spaces are threatened.
Both companies and individuals can support the Land and Water Defense Fund, regardless of their affiliation with The Conservation Alliance.

Companies interested in contributing may contact carla@conservationalliance.com. For current members, donations to the Fund must be in addition to membership dues.
TCA relaunched the Land and Water Defense Fund in November 2024 in response to impending threats to public land and water. Working with our member companies, the Fund will support TCA’s advocacy efforts and grantmaking to grassroots organizations working to protect our public lands, local economies and recreation opportunities. Selected organizations will receive 6-12 month grants of up to $50,000.
Interested applicants should review eligibility criteria and priority areas below and may complete our online inquiry form if they would like us to consider a funding request. TCA will review submissions and invite eligible applicants to submit a detailed proposal. Selected projects will be funded given available resources. Due to the urgent nature of these efforts, all funding decisions will be made by TCA staff.
Awards will focus on projects that address an urgent threat and are working to:
Priority will be given to organization’s playing a leadership or critical role in efforts that (1) Defend TCA Priority Campaigns, (2) Include a parallel process for securing durable protection, (3) Address an urgent threat to public lands, (4) Elevate marginalized voices and leadership, and/or (5) Have a clear role for business members to play. Organizations should be specific about which landscape or issue they will be addressing.
