Land & Water Defense Fund Grants

TCA will make 6-12 month grants of up to $50,000 that support grassroots organizations working to protect our public lands, local economies and recreation opportunities. Organizations should review eligibility criteria and priority areas below. Interested applicants may complete our online inquiry form if they would like us to consider a request. TCA will review submissions and invite eligible applicants to submit a detailed proposal. Selected projects will be funded as they are received, given available resources. Due to the urgent nature of these efforts, all funding decisions will be made by TCA staff.

The majority of awards will focus on projects that address an urgent threat and are working to:

  • Defend bedrock conservation laws (e.g., Wilderness Act, Antiquities Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act);
  • Defend landscapes, rules and regulations, and management plans that TCA previously supported; or
  • Oppose the proposed transfer of federal lands to states or private ownership.

Priority will be given to organization’s playing a leadership or critical role in efforts that (1) Defend TCA Priority Campaigns, (2) Include a parallel process for securing durable protection, (3) Address an urgent threat to public lands, (4) Elevate marginalized voices and leadership, and/or (5) Have a clear role for business members to play.
