The Gunks Climbers Coalition (GCC) is an advocacy group dedicated to creating and maintaining sustainable opportunities for responsible climbing across the Shawangunk Ridge and surrounding areas.
The Shawangunk Ridge, affectionately known as “the Gunks”, is home to some of the best traditional climbing in the world. Stellar rock quality, unique geological features, rewarding summit views, combined with close proximity to NYC and Boston attract over 100,000 climbers each year.
Founded in 2002, the GCC serves as the local climbing organization and Access Fund affiliate for this beautiful region and diverse community. For the past 19 years, we have filled an ongoing need for community building, climbing access advocacy, community education, and land stewardship. We have opened new areas to climbing (Dickie Barr); fostered community through annual film festivals and gatherings; advocated at local, regional, and national levels for land protection and access rights, plus much more.
