In our Winter 2018 grant cycle, we funded Northeast Wilderness Trust to acquire the Eagle Mountain property, with a goal of permanently protecting 2,434 acres in New York’s Adirondack Mountains. In 2019, NWT completed the land acquisition and the preserve is now open to the public. Eagle Mountain Preserve is remarkable for its glacial-carved topography, which includes cliffs that are nesting grounds for endangered peregrine falcons. Additional features include dense, mature forest, 3.5 miles of stream habitat, eight peaks over 1,000’, 155 acres of wetlands, numerous ponds, and a recreational footpath that lets hikers, photographers, and bird-watchers enjoy the land.
