560 acres protected

Ducks Unlimited used Conservation Alliance funding to protect and acquire 560 acres in the Elk River Unit, formerly known as the Grayland property, in the Johns River Wildlife Area. Ownership and management of this forested wetland located along the Pacific coast in Washington was transferred to the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife. The Elk River Unit contains fresh and estuarine wetland habitats, tidal mudflats, and old growth forested uplands, and it is open to the public for hiking, birding, and big-game and waterfowl hunting. The Wildlife Area is home to Roosevelt elk, black-tailed deer, black bears, bald eagles and waterfowl including the endangered Marbled Murrelet.
