With support from The Conservation Alliance, the Sierra Club of BC worked with partners to secure a ban on mining and oil and gas development on 400,000 acres of the province’s Flathead River Valley. The protections came when the BC government passed the Flathead Watershed Conservation Act in November 2011. The Flathead spans the US/Canada border, just north of Glacier National Park. The next goal in this effort is to secure Canadian National Park designation for the southern one-third of the valley.
