The Adirondack Council celebrated a critical step in their Adirondack Forest Preserve Campaign to permanently protect 65,000 acres of Wilderness in the Adirondack State Park. On March 12, 2014, the State of New York finalized the purchase of 8,451 acres in the southern Adirondack Park. This land will be added to the “forever wild” state Forest Preserve. The state intends to purchase a total of 65,000 acres for addition to the public Forest Preserve, where it will be protected from logging or development by the state Constitution’s Forever Wild Clause.
