Conservation Alliance grantee, Appalachian Voices, was instrumental in convincing the EPA to veto the Spruce Mine permit. By vetoing the permit, 2,300 acres and 6 miles of headwater streams surrounding the proposed mine were permanently protected. Some of America’s most diverse forests and rivers have been protected from the devastating practice of mountaintop removal mining with the vetoing of this mining permit by permit.
