In 2008, The Conservation Alliance awarded American Whitewater a grant to launch American Whitewater’s Colorado River Stewardship Program to protect and restore water flows in streams throughout Colorado.
On November 30th, 2011 Instream-Flow water rights on 70 miles of the Upper Colorado that protect streamflows critical to ecosystem health were filed, ensuring that the Colorado River will be protected from future dams and diversions. This is the first-of-its-kind protection for streamflows in iconic sections of the Colorado River, including Gore Canyon, Pumphouse, and Statebridge.
