We awarded $20,000 to The Wilderness Society (TWS) to support their effort to defend the 2001 Roadless Rule. The Roadless Rule prohibits road construction and timber harvesting on 58.5 acres of inventoried roadless areas on National Forest lands. The Wilderness Society is working in collaboration with other conservation groups to halt Alaska’s attempts to exempt the Tongass National Forest from Roadless Rule protections and stop large-scale logging projects in roadless areas from moving forward in Utah’s roadless areas. TWS will use our funding to hold the administration accountable, push for legislation to enact Roadless Rule protections, and work to prevent additional states from seeking Roadless Rule exemptions.
