The Conservation Alliance is the leading business coalition for conservation. We harness the collective power of our members to protect lands and waters for future generations. Founded by four leading outdoor brands in 1989, we have grown to include hundreds of companies across industries, perspectives, and geographies. Over the years, we have learned that elevating local and Indigenous knowledge and building meaningful partnerships based on trust lead to long lasting impacts.
In order to achieve our vision, we are actively working to infuse values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) in ourselves as individuals, our organizational culture, processes, and programs, and the greater conservation movement. This work takes time and consistent dedication. As we continue to grow in this space, we commit to:
Create a community where everyone collaborates, shares knowledge, and takes action for the places we all value. The collective nature of our organization is our greatest strength. By bringing together voices across various industries, we advocate with a unified message on behalf of shared values and business interests. We know that success happens when a diverse coalition of voices and perspectives comes together and champions solutions that balance the best interests of the land, water, economy, and communities.
Double down on our commitment to supporting communities that have historically been excluded from the conservation movement, even in moments when industry and business are pressured to step away from JEDI work. We will continue to use our collective power to break down barriers, collaborate with on-the-ground communities, and learn and grow to ensure the best possible conservation outcomes. Regardless of political pressures or shifting industry trends, equity will remain central to our work.
Build programs that are inclusive and representative of the diverse perspectives that are vital to the success of the conservation movement. The conservation movement was built on systems that amplified some voices while excluding others. We are committed to changing these systems through our grants program, advocacy efforts, and partnerships, and by doing so, making a positive impact on the movement as a whole as well as the communities we serve.
Lead with thoughtful and transparent communication in regards to our goals, outcomes, successes, and failures. We seek to ensure that our communications remain genuine, authentic, and well-informed. Dedicating ourselves to equity and inclusion means that we are constantly growing as an organization. Lessons learned are often shared with community members as opportunities for growth for our organization and the entire movement.
We recognize that centering equity in our work requires ongoing effort and commitment. We approach this work strategically, with intentionality, and will continue to adapt as we learn. We cherish our partners and their impact on the conservation movement, which is strongest when we work together.
