We funded The Nature Conservancy of North Carolina’s Citadel Tract, Black River Preserve Campaign to acquire 1,790 acres of land adjacent to North Carolina’s Black River, including wetland forest, longleaf pine forests, and some of the oldest bald cypress trees in the world. TNC acquired the 1,790-acre Citadel tract, and they are working to restore forest health on the property. Acquiring the Citadel tract is a critical step toward TNC’s long-term goal of creating a state park in the lower portion of the Black River.
