The Sierra Club of BC used our funding to support its Flathead River Valley Campaign to designate a new Flathead National Park as an extension of Waterton Lakes National Park into British Columbia, establish a legislated Wildlife Management Area between the B.C. – Montana border and Banff National Park, and establish up to three new wilderness areas in southeast B.C. and one new wilderness area in Montana. The campaign reached an important milestone when the US Congress passed the North Fork Watershed Protection Act, permanently protecting 430,000 acres in northern Montana from any mineral entry. This protected area is an important piece of the greater Flathead River area that spans the US-Canada border.
