“We are disheartened to see the Trump administration taking steps toward rescinding the Roadless Rule – a policy widely regarded as one of America’s most successful conservation measures. The notion that the Roadless Rule “hampers American businesses” is not only inaccurate – it’s dangerous. The $1.2 trillion outdoor economy relies on landscapes remaining intact and protected from industrial development such as road development, mining, and timber harvesting. Rolling back the Roadless Rule would threaten recreation access for activities like mountain biking, fishing, climbing, hunting, and more, as well as tourism, and other activities that local businesses depend on. We hope to work with the Forest Service on a cooperative and transparent process that incorporates the business community’s input alongside the best available science. Businesses – as well as the public – overwhelmingly support the Roadless Rule because it creates long-term sustainability for our economies and forests.” – Paul Hendricks, Executive Director of The Conservation Alliance
