61 acres and a climbing area

In October 2020, the Gunks Climbers’ Coalition (GCC) purchased a 61-acre parcel of land in the Shawangunk Mountains close to New Paltz, NY. The purchase was made possible by a loan from the Access Fund and includes 1,000 feet of the Millbrook Mountain cliff line, including the historic Antlion Crag that will add 70-100 high-quality backcountry climbing routes. This more secluded climbing experience will offer traditional climbing, top roping, overhangs, vertical faces, and some crack climbing.

In July 22, 2022, GCC was able to fully pay back the loan and complete their first land acquisition, in part due to funding from The Conservation Alliance. Next steps include site improvement for a new access road, parking area, trailhead amenities, and construction of a new trail to the cliff, including signage to tell the story of the Lenape people who originally inhabited the land.
